Venessa Miemis, Digital Philosopher, Futurist, Agent Provocateur

Venessa Miemis is a futurist and digital ethnographer, researching what is happening at the intersection of technology, communication, and culture and how we’re impacted as a society, and what that means for the future. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Media Studies at the New School in NYC. Here's how she describes her work:

“Since completing my undergraduate work in Psychology, I have been exploring human behavior and motivation and creating optimal environments in which people can thrive. I spent several years as a District Manager for a chain of retail stores, overseeing all operations, improving productivity and efficiency, and developing leadership in my management teams.

"After that, I went in a completely different direction, accepting an opportunity to be part of the core team of a future-focused social media startup. In that role, I researched emerging technology trends, interviewed top futurists and thought leaders, and wrote articles analyzing the implications of social technologies. That experience led me to my current post-graduate pursuits, which are focused on building collaborative online social networks and unlocking their power to affect positive change in the world.”

The Future of Money is a research project Venessa created for her presentation packed with 200 global heads of banks at the SIBOS Conference in October 2010 in Amsterdam (SIBOS is to the banking and financial services world what the Olympic Games is to sport, and is organised by SWIFT).

Originally conceived as an experiment and a conversation-starter for the conference, in just 15 days The Future Of Money project became a viral sensation, It was a trending topic on Twitter, enjoyed 12000 plays on video channel Vimeo with over 4,000 embedded plays on various blogs and a YouTube version translated and subtitled by "the crowd" into French, German, Spanish and Italian.  The story was also picked up  by The Huffington Post and Fast Company and the meme "FutureofMoney" is now found in every online channel where people are interested in this subject.

The Future Of Money: Ideas On Value Preservation, Value Exchange & Currencies Are Shifting

This speaker is scheduled to perform on:

6 - 10 June

How is the connected generation (Generation C) thinking about money and value? How are new systems of wealth generation, trade and currency exchange emerging? Will we still need to accumulate large pots of money over a lifetime to achieve financial security as social and economic models transform? What does the future hold for banks and other financial institutions in the wake of massive peer to peer exchange?

Using a hashtag #FutureofMoney, these are some of the questions that Venessa Miemis will be inviting your, and via a live Twitter feed, the world's, opinion on during her interactive talk:

The Future of Money - a snapshot of shifting behaviours and values, the emerging technologies/ currencies landscape, fractured business models, new frameworks and ideas for digitally-connected markets and a vision of how things could play out over the next decade.

If you plan to still be working in Financial Services ten years from now, you cannot afford to miss this session.
