What happens when you fill a pub with drinkers, thinkers and business people to hear 20 PhD students and researchers waxing lyrical about their work and why it deserves to win $5000 in funding?

You have enlightenment, laughs and technology on tap,

‘Technology on Tap’ is a highly anticipated fixture on the Amplify festival schedule, loved by contestants and audience members alike.

It gives all up and coming PhD students and researchers the opportunity to share their research - and how it will benefit society, with the world - and win $5000 to fund their ongoing research in the process.

Taking place in a local pub, Tech On Tap gives each student two and half minutes to use the art of storytelling and performance to communicate what are often very complex ideas into simple messages to the assembled audience.

The students selected to present their research on the night will be trained by a performance coach to help them deliver their key messages in an entertaining, informative and accessible way using a variety of different mediums (e.g. using storytelling, poetry, comedy, music etc). 

A panel of academics and business people will judge the presentations and the winner will be awarded a $5000 towards their ongoing research. The audience present on the night will also determine a people’s choice award and the winner will win a special prize.
